This week in #weedling news, there was a mishap with my carefully prepared nutrient stripped and sterilized soil. 😿 Instead the weedlings are waiting for Monday's transplant as soon as the truck drops off some Happy Frog. Silver lining, I managed to get all 4 over the dry-soil hump finally, and the sensors work!

Should I do anything about pre-treating the soil? I'm in a hurry to repot but I don't want to spend another grow fighting those stupid gnats and maybe aphids again. (That was different but comparable soil, now lost to the geraniums.) I've got neem and DE still but it is such a suck to start off fighting like that.

I'm going for 3 gal fabric, with a bunch of clay pellets mixed into the bottom couple of inches, then dump the mycorrhiza on the old soil and inside the hole. A few hours after move-in they get a proper ph check and maybe a touch more water. And I have until tomorrow to figure out their next training.

Today's #weedling update: Two needed some extra water yesterday, and I still need to number the pots. While I was in there I moved the camera and lights up again (check the fun new angle!)

Annoyingly, the two dry sensors did not align with the two lightest pots. So that is fun. I'll number them after sunset tonight and maybe something will stand out from the graphs in the morning. (Next option is to move the sensors during the next watering and see if it gets better.)

I still need to build my light sensors, since the soil sensors are under the canopy. I don't know that I actually need them, but I am still a little paranoid. On the last grow, the lights went super unreliable as soon as I flipped to flower. I've replaced that piece, but I want those sensors. (And the sensor controller can also manage some auto-water pumps..)

Today's #weedling and #hydrotower combo update:

The tower is waiting for Cal-Mag because @WordenPond is brilliant. (It also explains what keeps happening to our squashes in the yard.) Other than the deficiency, it is doing OK and the one cucumber continues to grow in it's odd gherkin-water-balloon way. Lots of male flowers but only a few fem still. 🤞

The weedlings are happy, and I finally found the spare #switchbot switch to replace the #securifi peanut on their grow light. That should make it MUCH more reliable.

The securifi plugs do have some serious bugs, but once set up they were generally reliable for years. Recently they have been suffering the increasing instability in the #homeassistant #zigbee2mqtt stack, exacerbated with HA's visceral hatred of "retry that obviously failed command". I'll likely reuse them in places where on/off is less critical, or as always-on power sensors.
