It really annoys me that most fiction in English, and more particularly that translated into English, uses measures in the imperial system. It feels strange reading this in Ireland, an anachronism with contemporary characters.
But of course it's due to us getting books destined for the larger US and UK markets

I just read that, in 2019, the definition of the kilogram was redefined in terms of the second (instead of Le Grand K). But I don’t understand how that’s possible. The following have been officially added to the International System of Units
ronna (27 zeroes after the first digit) and quetta (30 zeroes), which are now at the top of the measurement range, and ronto (27 zeroes after the decimal point) and quecto (30 zeroes), which are now at the bottom.
