Last night was excellent! The amount of talent on stage and in the orchestra was off the charts. The Welsh National Opera’s updated version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute shows that opera can be fun, relevant and for all ages. It was great to see a large number of younger people there.

A treat this afternoon. In the cheap seats at St David’s Hall, Cardiff for Smetana’s Má Vlast. It was really lovely. I knew the second movement well (it was on the second CD that I owned), but didn’t know the other movements at all. The first is a new favourite, and there are some lovely gems in there. The best part was conductor Tomáš Hanus, with his expressions! Because we were in the cheap seats behind the orchestra, we had a great view of him and the orchestra of the #WelshNationalOpera
