My ESPNOW to WiFi/REST gateway using a Wemos D1 mini Pro and a NodeMCU.

📶 I had to use the D1 mini Pro because of the external antenna. Without it the range for ESPNOW was a few centimetres with all esp8266 boards I tried, not sure why.

2 followers · 17 posts · Server social.linux.pizzaThe reason why it had to be Mini Pro was the external antenna connector. If you're going to use it don't forget to move that 0Ohm resistor next to the antenna into correct position. They come configured to use onboard antenna.

I bought a Wemos Mini Pro clone that was available quickly but definietly not cheap like a cheap clone. This device has a design problem - it just doesn't work if you power it through 5V pin. The easiest solution is to replace the diode in the indicated place by a solder bridge. It's no longer safe to power it both through USB and 5V pin at the same time, but I'm not going to do that anyway.

Ladies and gentlemen, another addition to my "chip cemetary" - a Wemos D1 mini I used for a my #commodore64 userport modem (UP9600) and which I had to replace since it started to randomly throw exceptions, no matter what code / firmware I uploaded to it.
