Apparently at least one werecavy survived the ghoul massacre, and so my regrowing fortress has declined again from a summer peak of 22 citizens.

It turns out you can’t expel nobles, although why my human bard (werecavy) qualified I don’t know. So I watched him make rock coffins for a season before he turned again. Then I expelled the brave elf bard who slew him.

Now I have four citizens again. But who knows if one is infected?

A ghoul killed most of my remaining bards. I spent a season with five non-dwarves before a few brave migrants arrived.

Now they are starting to get back to work. Mostly digging catacombs to bury the many dead, trying to calm the ghosts.

Unfortunately I still get occasional werecavy outbreaks. Most of my “guests” are undead I can’t expel.

So the cycle continues.

Bard Fortress

The outbreak of werecavies continued, until my fortress was reduced to a population of 14. Half of them non-dwarves who have been granted citizenship.

I accidentally trapped one werecavy in a half constructed tomb.

Just after this an entire troupe of bards joined my fortress. I now have twenty citizens, only three are dwarves. One is a child. I guess no mining for me.

Now to bury all the dead.

Things are starting to spiral. Two of the injured in the hospital became werecavies. But also my friendly neighborhood necromancer seems to be turning them into ghouls.

My population dropped by around fifty over the winter. I guess I can stop expanding my apartments and start expanding my tombs.

I’m not certain my fort will survive another year at this rate.

I appreciated that someone’s arm got into the fighting.

After a brawl in the tavern that filled all of my hospital beds, I decided it was time to expand the hospital.

And just after finishing the aftershocks of my werecavy attack appeared. Five new were creatures, two of them infected dwarves.

It’s going to take a while for me to clear this infestation. Or this is how my fortress spirals into decline?

Either way, fun!

Occasionally one of my guests in the tavern turns into a were creature of some kind and attacks. Usually my patrons kill it immediately. In this case all I see of the werecavy is his tooth and some blood. You don’t mess with goblin dancers.
