Tonight's #western is Gold Of The Seven Saints [1961]

"Fur-trapping partners stumble across a cache of gold, but their discovery quickly attracts every greedy villain in the territory."
9/11 What would you do if you met your antagonist?
(Previous book) Aufteilen is the kind of self-important crank that would leave me struggling to be polite. Iâve met his type and barely endured a harangue filled with nonsensical, easily-debunked claims and identity-signaling catchphrases. They finally left me when I refused to even countenance the climate change denial.
Dismissing Aufteilen might have dire consequences.
Tonight's #western is The Quick Gun [1964] with Audie Murphy, a remake of Top Gun [1955] with Sterling Hayden.

"Gunslinger Clint Cooper helps an ungrateful town fight off a raid by his former gang."
9/10 Is writing dialogue easy for you? Why / why not?
Itâs a challenge. Non-fiction doesnât have it.
A complication in 1848 American West is a lot of languages. Which means translators. With their own agendas.
Somewhere I saw this list: context, conflict, crisis, climax, consequences. This helps me structure the dialog within a beat. It helps me avoid rambling. (Sometimes there are side-bars that have a mini conflict within the overall conflict of the beat.)

My first reaction to opening the Far West PDF was that it looked pretty good!

9/9 MC POV: What do you hate the most about the author?
(Callback to 9/3) Geraldine doesnât like the lack of attention to the light and space of the west. Sheâs rushed and crowded with interruptions. Antonia hates the way the innocent are made to suffer along with the guilty.

And #ClimateChange is just one of the evils for which #Western countries bear a disproportionate responsibility.
Still, if there's a better way of surviving this crisis, it's thru a renewed world order based on international law and justice. This is why the global South should not support in any way #Putin's regime and war, and hopefully gain a leadership rather than make use of rifts in the international community.

9/8 What do you pay attention to when describing your characters' surroundings?
Light. Sound. Plants and Animals. While these arenât universally true, they seem important. Sometimes itâs architecture, people, or geography.
In a few cases, I go so far as to put a detailed map in my notes to assure consistency and clarity.
For horror, it seems like darkness is an active agency. Lurking. Grabbing. Touching. The chaos of the unknown.

9/7 Why did your villain become a villain?
From the previous book. Aufteilenâs coming to America with a handful of mercenaries started him on the path from crackpot to villain. One line was crossed when one of his men was driven to madness by what he saw. Aufteilen had him taken off into the mountains and stuffed in a hole, perhaps to die. In the meanwhile, it helped remind key people in town of his power.

9/6 When is a detailed description necessary and when is it better to skip?
I started in non-fiction, specifically computer programming. A language is an abstraction standing on top of libraries. These abstractions are standing on the OSâŚ. Itâs layered. Deeply. And. The deeper layers are of only passing interest.
Fiction seems similar. Thereâs an underlying world and a story, revealed in character actions and interactions. Horror isnât monsters, itâs morals.
