Few on ramps are two lanes merging into one. If the concern is vehicles backing up onto Marginal Road please split the difference and make the merge happen sooner and give more space to Cherry Walk. But truthfully, how often would vehicles be backing up onto Marginal Road. Two lanes really doesn't help that much. It ALWAYS creates a choke point.

The West Side Highway southbound (sb) on ramp at St Clair at two lanes creates a choke point for pedestrians and bicyclists on Cherry Walk.

That on ramp does not need to be two lanes.

Either #NYCParksAndRecreation or #RiversideParkConservancy planted about 5 native
cherry trees at 100th street ramp of the #WestSideHighway . A very clever undertaking.

Speed gunned the #WestSideHighway at 104 from #CherryWalk at 10:15am. Most cars doing 58. A few over 60 and one at 75. If the goal of the 50 mph #speedlimit is 60 then fine . If it 50, the speed limit must be reduced to 40. To a driver, 50 means it's ok to do 55.

#SpeedGunned the southbound #WestSideHighway tonight. At 5:30 the cars were maxing at 10mph in bumper to bumper soul draining traffic. Then later at 6:45, traffic still heavy so no one could easily exceed 50. Most were at 47. One was at 58. I'd like to do it earlier in the week like Monday - Wednesday when the road is more empty and this weekend.

The speed limit is 50mph which is ignored when the road is less congested.

@JasonThorne I want NYC DOT to deploy many of these. Can start on the #WestSideHighway AKA #HenryHudsonParkway AKA #9A. There are no lights there currently but this would reign in speeders and promote safety on that road.

Speeding is rampant on the HHP. A car flipped off the HHP last week onto the Cherry Walk greenway because of speeding. @thebostonlol @rbellinger You mean WTAF. This is a common experience. Three lanes each way. No accident. This happens because cars go too fast. Congestion pricing will actually make this worse. As fewer cars are coming in, there will be fewer cars on the road and what remains will drive faster.

Choosing Riverside Drive over the greenway for biking, I'm always considering safety vs. time vs. winds vs. noise. The greenway at times can be unsafe due to crowding, usually windy and always out of my way, though more scenic. You have the Hudson River there.

The cars zooming by on the West Side Highway are always loud.
Between loudness, wind, congestion, sometimes Riverside Drive is an easier choice.

Just told a few people at the #RiversideParkConservancy that I want to extend the planting north on both the #WestSideHighway and #CherryWalk.

#Daffodils planted as bulbs late last fall are up on #WestSideHighway Southbound at 100th and along #CherryWalk at 100th. Distinctly, planted them last fall along the highway because within a few years that outer lane will become a #bikenyc lane. Each year I will extend the planting. Good rich soil. Bicyclists move slow enough to appreciate it.

@atthenius I don't know pounds but counts. Usually 100 to 50 per bag or box. I've taken to planting them next to the #WestSideHighway so that when we get a bike lane there will be color along it - at least in the 100s. I just started last fall. The ground is usually very soft so its easy to do and I usually plant in bunches of 10-15. I take a large shovel with me.

@fuck_cars_bot And that's just the #EastSide because you are talking about the #FDRDrive. On the #WestSide we have the 'lovely' #WestSideHighway which has magnificent views of the #HudsonRiver and disconnects people from the waterfront for miles at a time. On the north there is #HarlemRiverDrive. Another abomination that separates northern #Manhattan from the #HarlemRiver.
