As spikes again - in 2 weeks cases are up 29% in US, incl. 56% in , 38% in ; while deaths are up 33% in the US, 55% in , 65% in - it surely looks bleak for mandates, no?

Something I never see in discussions is the value that *bosses* get from .

Like today. The non-critical systems are down due to a power outage. In the old days, that's a day off. Now it's a wfh day.

Or this weekend. I was bored and checked my work email via phone. Saw a question the ops people had and answered it.

If wfh doesn't count as real work in the boss's mind, then I don't need that phone and snow days go back to being holidays.

What head set do you recommend for wfh? Iโ€™d like it to have a decent mic as I talk a lot for my work.

Return to Office, circa 1925.

Harold Ross launched The New Yorker in 1925, and during its early days funds were tight. Dorothy Parker was one of his early writers, and no fan of the financial squeeze.
Ross demanded to know why she had not come into the office as expected one day.
Dorothyโ€™s reply to Harold: โ€œSomeone was using the pencil.โ€

Construction materials are here. So the house renovation is really happening. Kinda dreading this because it's going to be messy and chaotic for months. I need to adjust my routine and hope I can still be productive amidst all this.

But I'm also excited because when this is all over, I'll have a new room. Can we just skip to the good part? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Speaking of which, how impossible do we think it is to find a 100% remote job? Say someone with experience in software engineering, and specialized in Agile and hybrid project management (aka scrum master, product owner, project manager, etc).

When you stop to think about it, is amazing. Just had a stand-up where one member of the team was on a train.

Thereโ€™s an invisible but powerful force in our lives. It is our habits. The pandemic reordered the routines that guide us and introduced . Now that theyโ€™re accustomed to this new style of work, many employees resist changing back. So what can change a habit? Another powerful force, incentives. So, how about free passes, paid by employers eager to see their workers back in the office? governing.com/transportation/p

It's an , I guess, but I miss open floorplan offices and I despise .

Going into work every day used to be a party. The energy was up. Laughter echoed over the bullpen. There was camaraderie and companionship. There was coffee and beer.

I don't understand; you want to be alone? You want to sit mutely in front of a glowing rectangle? You don't like to laugh? You don't like to turn around at an overheard comment and quip a retort?

You don't want this?
