#SamPhillips, “Holding On To The Earth” from album “The Indescribable Wow”

After ditching contemporary Christian music in favor of a secular, more pop approach, and more than a decade before providing the score for the Gilmore Girls TV series, Sam Phillips had a radio hit.

To distance herself from her CCM past, Leslie Phillips adopted her nickname Sam, and issued “The Indescribable Wow” as Sam Phillips’ debut album. Her voice, almost twee but with a smoky edge that you just know will age like Marianne Faithfull fine wine, works perfectly in the 60s psychedelic setting of “Holding On To The Earth.” I’m not sure how widely it was played on commercial radio outside of #Boston, but here it was a favorite on alternative-leaning #wfnx (RIP).

@VE2UWY #wbos is now 90's Alt Rock, mostly. Not sure what happened to #wfnx it used to be the alternative, and had a #lgbtqia talk show, Monday night, I think. Phoenix Media Group, the folks who ran wfnx and the Phoenix weekly paper, is no more.

@wx1g #WBOS was, when I was there late 80s, *country* ...The other 2 aren't ringing bells. #WFNX was the "Alternative" station #BITD. Sad how radio has deteriorated in many places - hope the Boston market is holding on!

Had 2 google: #WZOU was the other one I remembered but they had just switched from #WCOZ the year before I got there. Now #WJMN & judging from the #WP entry, probably not for me ... might have been true then as well!
