On November 9, 1978, Tulsa, Oklahoma-based satellite carrier United Video Inc. uplinked the WGN-TV signal to a Satcom-3 transponder for distribution to cable and C-band satellite subscribers throughout the United States. (United Video uplinked the station's signal without WGN Continental Broadcasting's consent, using a legal exemption in the 1976 Copyright Act's compulsory license statute allowing "passive" carriers to retransmit broadcast signals.

When I was growing up in the 1970s, in a little town outside of , the Show (on channel 9) would have a segment about various zoo animals. And they always played "The " song (by the ) to introduce the segment.

@w8emv When I was lived in FL long ago, I used to listen to on 780kHz. I probably could have heard . I love online , but it was so special before the Internet when even a phone call to distant city was expensive.

Listening to NHL hockey on 720 kHz via a run by at grid EN61gk. The receiver is about 60 miles from the 50,000 watt AM transmitter.

Signal is (unsurprisingly) S9+25 into the Kiwi.

The K9MQ receiver is my favorite for
area AM stations, with consistently good coverage and clear signals.
