#WhatchaReading I'm currently digging into Dorothy Dunnett's mysteries. They have been republished with splendid covers - a vast improvement over the tatty second-hand editions I own. (Some of them contain rather unspeakable things.) (Not quite as bad as that 19th-century Baedeker of London that - judging from the smell it emanates - must have fallen into a chamber pot at one point in its life; I really ought to throw it away bec I can't even pick it up without retching. The smell is that bad.)
#WhatchaReading? I #AmReading His Forgotten Bride by Aydra Richards, an amnesia story, yay!. My third by her and I'm really enjoying them; nice to be able to read historical romance again. She's kind of old fashioned but not Old Skool, if that makes sense.

#WhatchaReading ? #JustFinished Tramps and Vagabonds by Aster Glenn Gray & am so happy to be loving her books again. Like The Sleeping Soldier, this explores attitudes about male affection/same-sex activity in the past--this time the 1930s Depression. As always, it's very immersive and touching, sweet despite very tense situations. The happy ending is a bit abrupt; I'd have like to see more thought process for the characters. But generally I loved it.
I've got three books on the go, enjoying them all. Reread of an old favourite, Moving Pictures (#GNUTerryPratchett)- funny, of course, nice bits of details from real Hollywood history snuck in, and quite a few "oh yeah, Gaspode the Wonder Dog is from this one!" moments.
What If? 2 by Randall Munroe, brilliant stuff.
Ghost Hunters Adventure Club And The Secrets of the Grande Chateau, a spoof YA mystery, slight but fun. #AmReading #WhatchaReading @bookstodon

#WhatchaReading ? I'm actually working on a review (!) of Out on a Limb, by Hannah Bonam-Young, which I mostly loved. Also doing way too many buddy reads, including Montana Sky by Nora Roberts and A Passage to India. You know, for a change of pace. ๐
Witch King by Martha Wells was a meaty fantasy with complex world building and layered characters I could really sink my teeth into.

#WhatchaReading ? I #JustFinishedReading Strange Love by Ann Aguirre and it was the cutest "alien abduction meets The Hunger Games" story ever. ๐ The alien MMC is an adorable cinnamon-roll-in-an-exoskeleton and the sex scenes are so genuinely weird yet somehow also sexy!
#justfinishedreading #whatchareading
#WhatchaReading ? , Though only published in 2018, Lights and Sirens by Lisa Henry has sadly aged like milk, at least for this American. A cop throwing his weight around, even to protect his boyfriend, does not fly. There's an interesting arc for the other MMC, a paramedic who's mentally overloaded by too many horrific accidents, but it's all kind of brushed over in the end, and the romance also happens way too quickly.

#WhatchaReading ? I was somewhat bogged down in Light Up the Lamp by Kit Irving but enjoyed it by the end. The main character is as thick as a brick, but he figures it all out eventually. ๐
Still listening to Mortal Follies but though the narration is very engaging I'm somehow not really engaged. Dunno if I'm up for another 5 hours of it.
#romancebookclub #whatchareading
#WhatchaReading ? I'm halfway through the audio of Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall and what seems to be the big climactic moment has happened. Is there going to be five hours just of people having sex now?

The Midwinter Mail-Order Bride is a hilarious--and steamy--ode to Conan the Barbarian. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a lighthearted barbarian fantasy.

#WhatchaReading ? I'm a third of the way into Love & Other Disasters and am a bit disappointed that the assigned-sex-at-birth of the non-binary character has been revealed. I was curious, sure, but also thought it was kind of cool not to know.
It's not really my cuppa -- heavy on the accident/humiliation humor. Cute characters though.

@willaful I just started A Death in Denmark by Amulya Malladi. So far an excellent mystery #WhatchaReading
#WhatchaReading ? I finished Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater, whose main character is a fallen guardian angel that switches genders at the drop of a hat and my book tagging system is now in complete disarray. ๐
The author mentions Good Omens inspiration but surely The Good Place was in the mix too? Fun, cute story, with some serious overtones.
#romancebookclub #whatchareading
#WhatchaReading ? I finished Happy Place and wound up really liking it. There's a lot about friendship as well as romance and the breakdown in the relationship(s) is well drawn.
These "two people who obviously still love each other" romances make me so sad though! I hate the flashbacks because I just want them to be reunited and happy again stat!
#romancebookclub #whatchareading
#WhatchaReading ? I started Happy Place and am wishing I'd read it in my own happy place, at camp, instead of during after vacation nothing-to-do-but-put-stuff-away blahs.
I'm not finding Wyn remotely attractive, which is making it difficult to read about every little twitch of his face. I hope that'll improve or I'll probably have to DNF.

#WhatchaReading ? I read Waylaid by Sarina Bowen, an author I generally like but who not infrequently makes me go WHUT big time.
I really liked Rickie whose cockiness goes hand-in-hand with a sort of effortless cool that made it work for me. He's pansexual but specifically heteroromantic, which I don't think I've seen in a romance before. And I really got how messed up and sick of himself he feels. Tell me about it, my dude.

@willaful Ah, as to #WhatchaReading, I gave in and used points and gift card money to get the third and fourth Sparks and Bainbridge books; I'm reading _A Rogue's Company_ right now, and having to pause because the abusive father-in-law and the custody fight, plus mental health issues, are hitting me hard.
The writing, however, is excellent; the banter great, the characterization, sense of place and time, and so on, spot on.
#WhatchaReading ? I finished Business or Pleasure after about 2 weeks. ๐คจ I liked the characters but I've always had a dislike for romances featuring sex lessons and this didn't change my mind. And I'm kind of skeptical about how effective it is? Seems to me it would make someone very self-conscious.
Now reading Funny Guy and irked because, if your book actually acknowledges the pandemic, shouldn't your character at least test when she gets sick? How irresponsible is that?!
#romancebookclub #whatchareading
I wonder if I can count the epically bad sex in Business or Pleasure as a man made disaster. ๐
(I'm continuing the book a week after I started it, that's how bad the secondhand embarrassment anticipation was! But the scene is over now so hopefully I can move on with my life. ๐)
