Since this is a safe space to ask stupid questions without fear that it’s part of a data mining operation, I’d like to ask one. Just to satisfy my own curiosity. I know a lot are journalists and computer science people. What else?
What do you do for a living? Not just your title. Tell me what you do (or did).

At the beginning of my career, I was an intelligence analyst and linguist for the military. Years later, I began working in cybersecurity. Over the years, I have worked closely with US Government agencies and corporate america.
Years ago, I demonstrated the threat of consumer products like home network storage. I connected it to a switch and monitored the traffic with a packet analyzer attached to the SPAN port. On boot, the device attempted to make a network connection in an unfriendly country.
About a year later, I identified a flaw shared in more than 20 dating apps where the search function opened connections to services in unfriendly countries, exposing the user’s private information. This led, in part, to a DoD policy for the military regarding the threat of these apps.
In all my career, I have never been asked nor have I offered private information a about people. The work has been expressly and narrowly focused on methods of attack, indicators of compromise and mappings to MITRE ATT&CK.
