New to mastodon. Read which server you pick doesn't matter. I picked defcon (cuz, duh) and mastodon.art.

.art has so many content warnings that I can't help but wonder what exactly it is they think art is all about (HINT: ART IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU FEEL THINGS) and whether this approach is doing more to promote art or to suppress it. But, ok, maybe this is just my hacker background clashing with more sensitive sensibilities. So I continue poking around only to keep running into "This profile has been hidden by the moderators of mastodon.art." (this one is for a *human rights* lawyer, btw).

I feel like if I listen really hard, I can hear Orwell laughing

Possible good thing about the Artificial Imitation panic is it moves the point of creativity away from Success to I’d Make Art Even If No One Cared. Which was always the difference between a commercial designer and an artist.

AI is that cheap as shit rival that underbids a logo for cat food. It’s not ever going to impact outsiders and risk takers and eccentrics. In fact it might scrape off a few layers of ‘artists’ and reveal more. #ai #WhatIsArt

Art is way more than a mere expression of human emotions and intent. Art is an exploration of boundaries. It is an analysis of what is acceptable in the current zeitgeist, and an effort to reinforce or expand those boundaries.
