I have no idea what made it usable again. It’s Arch so of course there were a few dozen updates in the meantime but none seemed related.

I can now cross Start A Cooking Fire off of my bucket list. All is well, nobody got hurt, and there was zero damage. The contents of the frying pan I was using suddenly caught fire, so it was just a matter of pulling the pan off the stove and waiting a couple of seconds for the material to burn off. FURTHER UPDATE...the manager called, and was very apologetic, but said there's no way they can let the purchase wait to be paid for since it was already in the system for today..he said they can redeliver tomorrow, as long as I can pay in cash...understandable, but...the nice girl who delivered, when she came to pick it back up, offered to take me to the bank.
