It is kind of mind blowing that I can transcribe an audio file using #whispercpp in my mini at the speed it does. I was using Google colab before and now I can do it all on my machine locally. #whisper

@brainwane @simon Have you looked at #whispercpp yet? I use it daily to catalog my #podcasts and #index the contents. It's WAY faster than normal #python-based whisper...even with #PyTorch. Then again, it's got a limitation on the #algorithms it uses.. it's #inference & #greedy-only right now.

I'm using #whisper (and #WhisperCPP by ggerganov at GitHub) from #openai to #transcribe my #podcasts so I can search them. I wish my #podcatcher @overcastfm would use something like this. Searching podcasts is something I do all the time and the search mechanism on all podcatchers always stinks, cos they're not full-text!

So, I download them to my computer, run #whisper, #search those text files, and voila! I've got a full-text-search!
