If you want a fairly private instance, you can defederate from everyone and then add servers you've vetted and approved of.

What’s a good universal replacement for the terms “#blacklist” & “#whitelist”?

Use of the terms #blacklist & #whitelist have been under fire the past ~10 yrs or so:

So politically correct terms are proposed, e.g:

blacklist→ blocklist
whitelist→ allow list

IOW, there is no generic replacement. Every substitution needs to creatively incorporate how the list is used (which you may not always know when naming a list).

My kids need access to their school websites to track tasks & even order food. I want to set up a way of allowing access to only those required sites on a browser. I am using #mintlinux and #firefox . What is the best way of making my old laptop into a dedicated school dumb terminal i.e. blocking all other activities on the machine especially web browsing via #whitelisting ? I was only doing the basic #Block feature of my phone -- I encounter a suspicious number first, then block it. It's still useful, as it has blocked a good number of repeat offenders.

I can't do the #whitelist method or block most other numbers. Anyway it hasn't gotten that bad yet. Apps like #ShouldIAnswer can be helpful, so I'm diligently submitting numbers and reporting them as Safe or #spam.

Oh, and i just discovered my #Android can block entire country codes! ☝️😃
