OCB Highlight on Heather Kim's #WHOI recent ocean bacterial modeling paper
Severe warming = 15% increase in bacterial respiration: Southern Ocean most impacted

Heather Kim #WHOI and colleagues published a new model analysis of #Ocean #ClimateChange
The study indicates a global decline in bacterial biomass and increase in carbon cycling through bacteria in a warmer future ocean.
Study provides the first systematic analysis of marine bacteria at global scale and a critical step toward a better understanding of how bacteria affect the functioning of the biological carbon pump and partitioning of organic carbon pools between surface and deep layers.
