The WaPo Editorial Board calls the #Phonics vs #WholeLanguage debate a settled “question of science.”

But they’re not nearly as consistent at defending science against Republican overreach in any other area.

As for the question of how party politics is guiding #PublicSchools legislation, they’ve got nothing to say.

An empirical question:

Would it work to reverse the picture and text in a #wholelanguage approach book (i.e., #leveledreading, #cueingsystem)?

For example, we show the picture of the content/text of the next page first and then show the text only to the students for reading. The picture could support world knowledge without distracting the actual reading activities.

We might not need to burn all the #balancedliteracy books!!
