How do I feel about nonferrous mining in northeastern Minnesota? Let's just say it's a tough problem. The lakes in the region are valued ecosystems; provide economic benefits via wilderness tourism, angling, lake-home dwellers, etc.; with many low-alkalinity, oligotrophic lakes that would be particularly sensitive mine drainage.

OTOH, modern society does need these metals--you're using them right now--and mines in MN would be subject to stringent regulation. NIMBY, it is argued, simply pushes the problem elsewhere, where regulation is lax, but the ecosystems perhaps just as sensitive as ours in #Minnesota.

Even if #cryptocurrencies used 2% it would be fine as it solves a #wickedProblem.

Estimates we see are 0.5% and its mostly #renewable, #strandedEnergy and flared stuff that would go to waste otherwise. Also in winter some use it for #heating a small room, and even food prep, eg. #fermentation etc.

The whole energy use alarmism is a #redHerring, and a corporateState #rhetoric.

Stop wasting time, get on board.

We don't really have a method for disempowering those that deserve less power. Ignore them, and if they are well-connected, as they often are, they will produced countless #pressReleases for the local (, often) #corporateMedia, #virtueSignal and demand actions etc.

It takes a strong stomach for a #policyMaker or #politician to say, "we recognise and value the work of X, but at this time we need to devote #resources to other matters".
