It seems it's impossible to initially connect from a #Chromecast device on #Android12 to a new #WiFi #WLAN using its REAL #MACaddress #EthernetAddress... 😠

The initial setup always seems to be with random MAC address (for privacy reasons)... Only once you successfully connected to the new WiFi at least once, you can modify the connection to use the device's "real" MAC address...

Seems to be a design limitation?!

For security reasons I have a separate IoT LAN, and per-MAC/device #WPA keys.

Over a year ago I bought a little #miniPC and installed #PFSense on it to serve as a #router for my #homelab

I didn't hook it up right away, and I forgot the credentials I used to set it up, but I connected it to a switch and it #justWorks so I never bothered to fix it.

My #Netgear #Wifi AP needs updated and restarted all the time, but pfSense has been doing it's job ever since with absolutely no help from me.

I had to stay in a #library a few times to use the #wifi since #internet connection is still down in my home. Had to replace my #dishwasher after so so many years this week. The new one is #WiFi enabled and for the life of me I can’t work out why!

I mean, I can read the manual and it says what it can do, but why?

“You can start the dishwasher remotely”. Okay, but I still have to walk to it and put detergent in.

“You can see how long is left on the current cycle”. So? If I’m out then I don’t care, if I’m in then I’ll check when I make a cuppa.

So yeah, I’m not enabling it

The other day when we were having issues with our TV, our ISP reset the fiber terminals and as a result I had to reconnect to the wi-fi on my phone. Before the reset, I had a private IP address of 192.168.x.x. Just today, I was going to reboot my router and noticed that I now have a private IP address of 10.0.x.x. Everything's working fine, but one of my college professors told me that using a 10 dot address is bad. Should I be concerned about this? Thanks! #Networking #wifi

So I wasn’t able to connect my AirPort Extreme as an extender to a Spectrum router via WiFi, but I was able to connect to the network via an ethernet port on an existing WiFi extender and I am able to get internet on the Airport Extreme via private network. Crazy. It’s not as fast, but I’m at least getting a stronger WiFi signal in the bedroom. Also tried WPS but it didn’t seem to work.

Trying to figure out a way to extend the WiFi at this temporary apartment we’re staying at because it doesn’t reach the bedroom and it seems there’s a way to use another Mac as a WiFi extender but I need to connect via ethernet cable and I can’t use a WiFi as the source? Sucks!
