@herrbischoff I understand the use of #Freebsd as a server is their priority, not desktop/laptop, but I'm sure it would be a success with better #wifi management (and suspend maybe, I don't know the state of it nowadays). #TrueOS was gathering a lot of audience until they drop the desktop environment, which mean a lot of people are interested in this concept.
edit: that said, I've yet to test #wifibox. Can you tell us more about your experience with it ?

After update of #FreeBSD-CURRENT c 2023-04-03, "#libvmmapi.so" was changed to "*.so.6", which made -- "grub2-bhyve" to not start, which in turn made -- #wifibox not to provide a connection of course (see the log in "/var/run/wifibox" somewhere).
Switched to FreeBSD-port of #iwlwifi driver (connection was 802.11g, not .11n); updated "ports" trees; recompiled "grub2-bhyve" & "net/wifibox{,-alpine,-core}" ports.
"kldunload if_iwlwifi" caused a panic; sure🤷🏽♂️
Then "wifibox" was working again.

I recently discovered #wifibox (net/wifibox).
This #FreeBSD package starts a Linux virtual machine with PCI pass-through for a Wi-Fi device and act as a router between the host system and the network.
As a user of a laptop with a built-in Wi-Fi adapter not supported by FreeBSD but supported by Linux, this allows me to have working Wi-Fi without the need for my old crappy USB Wi-Fi dongle.
My current network config for wifibox, bastille and iocage is a total mess. Some cleanup is needed!
@dottorblaster I had been using #FreeBSD :freebsd_logo: c 2000 on a Dell & ThinkPad X|T series laptops. Currently running in a VM on Windows 10 on X260; directly installed on a Framework c 2021 laptop & Intel i5-10*/ASUS motherboard desktop.
- Use #ZFS (VM or otherwise; ECC RAM or not).
- Use Intel NICs at least for 1 Gb/s ones.
- For WiFi connection via #Intel_AX210/Framework, I use Alpine VM in #bhyve via #wifibox package (in early 2022 it was stable & faster than native port of "iwlwifi")

/Re: Cheap Wireless USB Adapter: RTL8188EU, RTL8821AU or something else?/
#iwlwifi driver ported from Linux to #FreeBSD (https://wiki.freebsd.org/WiFi/Iwlwifi ) works, at least, for #Intel_AX210 (in Framework laptop).
I have been using "#wifibox" port/package[0,1,2] -- uses Alpine VM to provide a network connection -- as it had been more reliable & its connection faster.
I have tested & used both only on FreeBSD-CURRENT 14.

Anyone used #wifibox on #FreeBSD? Cannot get the interface to configure on system startup (has no ip) as if doesn't exist. Once booted "dhclient wifibox0", or `ifconfig wifibox0 inet 10.0.0.2/24`; `route add default 10.0.0.1` works:
