Now I will have to call it forever:
"Mirmingham (category Welsh nasal-mutation forms)
Mirmingham (nonstandard) Nasal mutation of Birmingham. In the standard language, non-Welsh place names like do not undergo mutation...."
I really don't understand mutation and I'm trying to figure it out properly. Once I do, I'll know when to say Birmingham with a b. I know there really is no such thing as Mirmingham but I am a rebel, Dottie.

Hi !! Does anyone have recommendations for any module of { , , , } ?

Expressed plainly, I'm looking for a dictionary xor thesaurus:-

-in English at least but ideally multilingual (language offering doesn't matter);
- is free, though I don't mind paying for it so long as it's—
- offline

I've tried plenty but the main thing is that I want something like wiktionary :)

@JonBaker Indeed— says the name was “coined in 1856 by the chemist William Henry Perkin, when he accidentally created the first aniline dye.” This could be an animated short.

In October 2022, "bauwarna" (translated as encyclopedia) entered the dictionary in the category of regional lemma.¹ The proposal took almost two years to be accepted.

Hola. Tengo una pregunta para los que saben de : resulta que estas son las visitas diarias que han tenido los 3 más visitados: en inglés, ruso y español.
Me resulta curioso que, a pesar de tener públicos en regiones distintas, las tendencias sean las mismas.
¿Sería correcto pensar que hay una relación de proporcionalidad entre los tres, y por tanto las ediciones dentro de cada proyecto no influyen en sus visitas?

I made my first edit -- linking an unfamiliar abbreviation that probably 2 other people don't know -- then I realized there's probably a more standard way to indicate it but I can't figure out the markup, so

anyway I want a wealthy patron so I can be a proper amateur lexicographer (and a proper amateur plenty of other things, as long as we're negotiating salary)

😍 More beautiful from a German's journey through English :

- "A camel is a horse designed by a committee."
- "Better to light a single candle than to course the darkness."
- "The course of true love never did run smooth."
- "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
- "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."
- "Hindsight is 20/20."

I have never heard any of those, and I don't know of any equivalents in German.

This is a sad day for me. We've decided to terminate our language project, www.termbase.com. The site will go offline soon.

Still, I've learnt a lot about language and meaning and words and terms. I'm thankful for all the experience and the knowledge gained.

*My Favourite Dictionary*

In the daylight, in the night,
My favourite reference in my hand.
In the net and in its might,
My favourite resource always can.

In my truthness, in my dome,
My favourite dictionary comes.
In my bedroom, in my home,
Yes, saves my bum!

really has the wildest stories of any media ever.

Also "geldables" is probably the most menacing synonym for testicles I have ever read but it seems that the game is the only place that use this word with this meaning so I can't add it to . Or can I?

The Laying of a Red-Haired

from a women’s magazine in 1909; and a straight-up story 60 years later, when adults fretted that a ghost-hunting talking dog was too intense for small children, back it wasn’t, and when people still considered such things.
says archaic meaning of “lay” is “cause to subside”. It’s not a / kind of thing. Get your mind out of the gutter.

While searching English for entries with many words in the title, I came across some nice proverbs I've never heard before (my L1 is German):

- when you're up to your neck in alligators, it's hard to remember that your initial objective was to drain the swamp
- you get more with a kind word and a gun than you do with a kind word alone
- if we had ham we could have ham and eggs, if we had eggs

I really love the last one and am wondering if there's a similar one in German 🤔
