How & why did this happen? And how does it fit with British #colonialism & #imperialism?
The topic of Irish soldiers in the British military is a complex one, often contested & sometimes misunderstood. The work here couldn't capture all aspects & I plan on expanding on it for the book. 2/4

My PhD looked at #Irish soldiers in the #BritishArmy during the #NapoleonicWars. My postdoc looked at Irishmen in the #FrenchArmy (the #IrishBrigade or #WildGeese). Since then I've worked on both topics, with articles & chapters on these & others including the Irish Militia & the #1798Rebellion. I also research on topics relating to the #Crusades & #medievalIreland. Looking forward to meeting you!
