Some freaky looking fungi on the Cunnigar today with swarms of Six-Spot Burnett moths and Bumblebees partying on the ragwort.
The month of rain we just had here doesn’t seem to have done any of them any harm at all.

Whimbrel or Curlew?
Taken today in Dungarvan harbour. There are a few here that I see regularly and they don’t seem to be transient.
They don’t really sound like Whimbrels to me but I was pretty sure there weren’t curlews around here.

@harriettmb Wild Ireland was amazing yesterday! We ended up spending four and a half hours there but it didn't feel like it. The talks were really interesting and we got to see almost all the animals (the otter was very shy). The wolves were really impressive but the highlight for me was getting to see the lynx - such a beautiful creature!
They've done a great job of the place.
This seems to have dropped off the end of the thread, for whatever reason.

🧵On our final day, just after leaving our hotel, we went via #WildIreland just outside #derry It is a relatively new animal experience. We were last there in 2020, and a great deal has changed. New signage, and it’s really good, upgraded pathways, new animals and birds also; and an Ice Age section is being built. We didn’t see all of it because the weather got really wet and miserable.
@Cbfoley We have had a wonderful time. Arrived on Sunday for a five night stay, so tomorrow is kick-out after breakfast. We will be visiting #WildIreland near Derry on our return trip tomorrow.
The last of the Pyramidal Orchids are just about fading on the Cunnigar now. There were hundreds here a week or so back and I only found these two today.
Some mushrooms are starting to appear now though, not sure if that is a sign of the approach of autumn or the change to much wetter and cooler weather over the past few weeks. The Arums seem quite happy too.
This is almost certainly a Whimbrel but I’m finding it hard to be certain. The beak seems too short and the head doesn’t seem to be quite right to be a Curlew but the photos aren’t quite clear enough. Happy to have seen them all the same.
There were at four of them on the Cunnigar this evening.

A Hummingbird Hawkmoth zipping around impatiens flowers in County Roscommon today.
Definitely the first time I’ve ever seen one. Delighted with this as it is such a glorious little creature.
Sime dolphins came for a visit to Helvick this morning. It was nice to see first thing when you get up. My camera was set up for night shooting so I missed the best opportunities but you can see there were dolphins.
