#WildIris, growing along a busy roadway here in #ormond #Australia snapped just now in the sunshine!!
As I was taking pictures, an older guy approached me and asks what it’s name is. So we looked it up on my trusty ID app and we chatted for 10 minutes about this group of beautiful plants. Bless!
It’s botanical name is #DietesGrandiflora and is a perennial plant of the family Iridaceae with long, rigid, sword-like green leaves.
This species is common in horticulture in its native South Africa, where it is often used in public gardens and along roadsides.
Grows well here and it’s gorgeous flowers are just breathtaking!

They're just coming out in little groups in untrodden places: When it gets a bit warmer, a moth that flies and feeds like a hummingbird will stop by these on its rounds.

Walking to the car after coffee, it was calling out from this unkempt front garden in #Prahran, poking through the fence slats saying ‘look at me world’…
