Last day of work. Cheers to retirement, more birding, and taking off on new adventures. #solaceinnature #birds #birding #birdnerds #roseatespoonbill #freedom #mastodonwildlife #wildlifephotgraphy #creationstruck

A young Silver Garden Spider (Argiope argentata) most likely. When I shot this, the entire stabilimentum (the decorative part of the web) was smaller than a dime, about 12mm by 9mm. The spider's body is 3mm long, about the size of Roosevelt's nose on a dime. The body of an adult female would be around 12mm with long legs. #spider #macro #macrophotgraphy #arachnid #wildlifephotgraphy

Morning all! I'd be interested to know if there are any #OM1 users here? 📸
I'm wanting and hoping to upgrade my #panasonic FZ330 bridge camera and have had my eye on the OM-1 for a while. It seems to tick all the boxes of what I'm looking for:
- Massively improved specs on my current set up (across all categories)
- Good low light level performance (important in Scotland)
- Good dust/water resistance (again important in Scotland)
- Not a huge system (I'm currently an opportunistic shooter so portability is important)
- Two decent lens options which provide good reach for #wildlifephotgraphy (M.Zuiko 100-400 and Panasonic 100-400)
Of course the main issue is the overall cost which with a lens would be pushing £3000. Spending this much could be justified (when I've saved for it) but I'm interested in reading any real experiences of using the #camera before I make a final decision.
Also, if anyone else has any other recommendations or advice I'd be keen to hear them as well 🙌

Meanwhile, a Cooper's hawk is surveying the construction area in Morningside Park, while a gadwall, a hooded merganser, and a red-winged blackbird—a sign of spring!—were in the Harlem Meer in Central Park.

A pair of red-tailed hawks, first atop a Columbia University dormitory and two hours later perched on the Archangel Gabriel's trumpet on top of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, about five blocks south. It's almost mating season; I suspect they're discussing if the chicks should receive a secular or a religious education.

Sometimes, I see a raptor on top of a flagpole on the Columbia University campus and sometimes I see a bunch of European starlings…

Two pictures of Flaco, a Eurasian eagle owl, and a near-full moon.

I, along with a few dozen other people, were there to watch Flaco, the escaped/liberated Eurasian eagle owl, fly out tonight in Central Park. (The second picture is what I call his "angel wing" pose.) He relocated a few times to nearby trees, and eventually into the North Woods before heading towards the construction area.

I probably won't be able to get out with my camera for a while, so in honor of today's weather in New York City here's a picture from two years ago, of a great blue heron in the snow in Central Park.

Don't forget you can follow hashtags here.
So, for example you could follow #WildlifePhotgraphy and your feed will suddenly have cool animals in it.
You can follow hashtags even if you don't know anything about the subject, like I follow #BirdingUK and I get to see so many new to me birds.
Fill your feed with something new to you, or something that makes you smile.
You are in control of your experience here, you make it special for you, not an algorithm.

Instead of going back to see the Eurasian eagle owl today, I went to Van Cortlandt Park. There was a lovely flyover by three Canada geese. I then walked up the old rail trail to Tibbetts Brook Park. On the way, I saw a great blue heron, and a mute swan in the park. On the way back, I saw a bear. Well, I think it's a bear; the rangers even ear-tagged it…

I'm looking to get a #camera and #lens for #birding without breaking the bank. The range of options is dizzying... any suggestions/advice?

You don't see a lot of reptiles where I live so it was a real treat to see so many on my trip to Suffolk last spring

I went to Shepaug Dam in Connecticut today to try to photograph some bald eagles. It was a bit disappointing; there were a few eagles around, but angles and distances weren't great. All I managed were some ID shots. I did get a nice picture of a red-tailed hawk in flight, but I can do that anywhere…
