On sunday morning we had an 8k cycle to #Château de Montlosier, where a garden fête with a producers' market, farm animals & various crafty activities was in full flow. We browsed the exhibits & stalls, chatted to some goats & bought artisan bread as we attempted to dodge the oppressive sun. Back at camp we had a cooling afternoon #wildswim at the now very busy beach. My legs are almost back to normal - that steep downhill 4k tore my legs up worse than any marathon ever did! #France #Cycling

We said au revoir to the coast to start our return home, making our first stop on the shores of Anse de Landroanec, near Guerlédan. After a short walk N fancied a #wildswim & enjoyed a lovely (& warm, 23dC) 1.2k as I watched on. Early the next morning we both had a wonderful 600m pre-breakfast swim, the water so still & smooth after choppy, salty seas - what a way to kickstart a morning. Soon we were on the road heading for our first visit to the Breton capital. #France #Brittany #wildswimming

It rained all evening, so we spent no time on Plage de Pors Péron. Instead we made our way to #Douarnenez, found a campsite & walked to town. Very nice marinas on our approach
After lunch we went #cycling to check out all the local beaches, Sables Blanches to Riz, before deciding that Plage des Dames was our favourite. We plopped down on the sand, had a #wildswim with lots of fishes and enjoyed some sun before the weather turned wet again. #Brittany #France

The next morning was glorious. After breakfast I went for a 12k run into Loctudy, returning along the coast to Les Sables Blancs to meet Nicky who was just completing her morning 2k sea #wildswim. We then spent a blissful afternoon of reading, dipping and people-watching on the beach as the tide slowly receded far out into the bay, uncovering previously unseen rocks. #wildswimming #running #Brittany #France

An impromptu Slow Ways adventure today from Haverfordwest to Newgale. A quiet & peaceful walk on quiet undulating roads. The one section off road was a well maintained, accessible Right Of Way. Up early & caught the 8am navette to the tourist site of Pont d'Espagne. The hairpin-strewn drive was crazy fun. We saw the historic bridge then hiked to Lac de Gaube and watched the rising sun slowly creep down the steep valley to turn the water turquoise. Couldn't resist a #wildSwim. We descended by the more used GR10 path, passing literally thousands of late starters coming up. We were so glad we'd arrived early to experience gentle, quiet moments and enjoy a peaceful swim. #Pyrenees #France

Rachel & Tom, a couple whom we first met in #Vietnam, came to visit us in #France. With lots off #cycling, pool dips, city visits, cheeses & beers on the menu, we enjoyed active, busy days out and lazy hours in eating, chatting & playing games. Local beaches, lakes and chateaux also featured prominently. A second couple from the same Vietnam trip, Paul & Anne joined us all for a loud night of revelry, reminiscing & raclette, followed by a hilly group cycle and cooling lake #wildswim. Fun times!

We made it only as far as Bourg-en-Bresse the first night, then stopped short at Lac de Vassivière for a final fantastic 2k #wildswim and a chill night in Auphelle. The following day we made it home to find our garden a jungle, so several days of chopping, cutting & clearing were needed before our next guests arrived to play a few days later. It's all go in sunny #France

Third times the charm! Our friends loaned us their SUP to try out, so we keenly raced back to Lake Montriond the following morning to try it out (and have another #wildswim too). After a few novice hiccups (involving pumps and valves) we got out on the water for a play. I enjoyed a calm paddle around as N swam near me, taking in the beauty of the lake from yet another perspective. This was our last day of play in the #frenchalps as home is calling us back - long drive ahead.. #SUP #France

Ha - I said we'd be back. We couldn't resist stopping in for another #wildswim at the gorgeous Lake Montriond as we passed. We suited up and swam around the buoys for a 2.2km loop, passing the occasional paddleboarder & kayaker en route. The (now) 21degC clear water was slinky smooth and the sun was shining, perfect conditions. Then a riverside walk and explore of #Morzine central before meeting friends for dinner & drinks. With my mood restored, we made our morning dip into a longer #wildswim, with shortie wetsuits & tow floats, crossing the bay (dodging power boats & pedalos) and back for a lovely restorative, head-clearing 2km. An afternoon of competitive table tennis (yes, okay, N won) and reading by the swimming pool was our reward. This was our last night at #lacleman as in the morning we were backtracking into the mountains to meet up with UK friends newly arrived in #Morzine.

Another day, another morning #wildswim. Then a #cycling trip to #Yvoire, at least for one of us. It was only 5k away, I decided to run & N doodled on her bike. It was a beautiful medieval village with quaint shops and cafes, a pretty chateau and lots of tourists. I ran back in time for lunch. After, we had a playful beach afternoon & I stupidly lost my fave sunnies catching a frisbee in the lake, had a proper mizzy on the rest of the day and many beers were needed to placate. #beachlife #france

After a quick morning dip in #lacleman, we decided our daily exercise would be #cycling into Thonon-les-Bains, 15k there, mostly on easy cycle paths. We paused at the marina for lunch, pushed our bikes up a (very steep) hill through a park to see the historic centre and rolled around the pretty shopping streets. We stopped off for another #wildswim at Plage de Sciez on our return journey, then picked up some snacks and beers to finish off our lazy campsite evening in style. #beachlife #france

Leaving #Seytroux we headed off to visit Lake Montriond, set in the mountains above #Morzine. We ran a couple of laps around the lake and along a woodland trail to the (currently fenced off) cascades d'Ardent. After, we cooled off with a gentle #wildswim The light was resting beautifully on the still lake and imposing cliffs, the water a refreshing 18degC - we'll be back here. Later we returned to Les Gets for an easy afternoon and to prep for the following day's downhill #cycling #frenchalps

Post-cycling late afternoon we used our ski-lift day passes again to visit the highest local point at Mont Lechat. From there we could again see the distant peak of #Montblanc and many paragliders circling around above and below us. We also attempted a practise #slackline but struggled to go more than a few steps - needs more work. We returned to the town via the chairlift & télécabine and had another #wildswim river dip to cool off, then pizza & beers to finish the day. #frenchalps #exhausted

Campsite Le Curtelet and lac d'Aiguebelette have been wonderful hosts. Lovely 1.8k exploratory #wildswim and 17k lake-loop #cycle on day 1, then a longer 3.2k swim (24degC water!) between and around the islands, followed by a well-earned lazy afternoon planning mini-adventures and reading my much neglected book. We had a final 300m early morning skins swim with the ducks, before the campsite had woken, a lovely end to our stay. Recuperative, restorative days. #France #frenchalps

Slowly coming towards the end of The Swimmer project. I've got a good bunch of images that flow well together and that feels like a place to stop, or at least pause, for a while.
