Good morning, if you are thinking of #wildswimming this weekend you might need to be a bit cautious about your #swimming

Despite being an island, the UK has fewer formally recognised bathing sites per capita than nearly any other #European country...

But, we also have the fifth highest number of sites rates as 'poor'.

As Tim Fallon (LibDems/Cumbria) puts it: 'the UK is officially the sick swimmer of Europe, with water companies allowed to get away with foul polluting habits'!

We said au revoir to the coast to start our return home, making our first stop on the shores of Anse de Landroanec, near Guerlédan. After a short walk N fancied a #wildswim & enjoyed a lovely (& warm, 23dC) 1.2k as I watched on. Early the next morning we both had a wonderful 600m pre-breakfast swim, the water so still & smooth after choppy, salty seas - what a way to kickstart a morning. Soon we were on the road heading for our first visit to the Breton capital. #France #Brittany #wildswimming

The next morning was glorious. After breakfast I went for a 12k run into Loctudy, returning along the coast to Les Sables Blancs to meet Nicky who was just completing her morning 2k sea #wildswim. We then spent a blissful afternoon of reading, dipping and people-watching on the beach as the tide slowly receded far out into the bay, uncovering previously unseen rocks. #wildswimming #running #Brittany #France

From Tarbes it was an hour's drive to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, where we hoped to begin our #Pyrenees exploration. We joined a long queue to buy (expensive) tickets up the gondola, but found the next available timeslot was hours away. Disappointed but €100 less poor, we instead dodged cyclists up & over the #ColduTourmalet, parked in Barèges ski area and hiked to Lac dets Coubous. Lovely sea swim this morning. Saw a little jellyfish friend this morning, and though ‘I’m glad it didn’t sting me but I wonder what it feels like’

It clearly heard, sent it’s friend and now I have a little rash on my knee.

I feel like there’s a saying about curiosity that applies here.

Loving this area of the #FrenchAlps, we moved along the valley first to Le Grand Bornand, and up further again to Chinaillon. Picked up some maps and started up GR96 to Aiguille Verte and Lac de Lessy. In every direction everything was stunning, with distant views of both #MontBlanc and #LacLéman from Le Buclon ridge. Wifey dipped in the cold lake before we headed back to town, weary but elated. #hiking #wildswimming

Today, I began training to Swim the Bay. I did 1/3 mile in the Gulf. Took 20 minutes. That's on track to swim 1 mile in an hour, which was what I did the first time I swam a mile in the pool. First time I've swum since May 5th, too, thanks to traveling. So that's all good. On the other hand, it made me kinda seasick.The waves buoying, turning my head, gulping salt water once. Still, starting is a good place to be.

Deciding against heading into the big mountains yet, we detoured south from #Grenoble to campsite Mayres-Savel on the gorgeous turquoise lake #Monteynard Avignonet. Only to find sailing, kite-surfing, kayaks SUPs all welcome but weirdly it's 'baignade interdite'. Vraiment?! Ha, just try and stop us. We enjoyed several beautiful #wildswimming sessions, lazy hours by the pool, and a boat trip to Trefort, #hiking 12k back to Savel across two Himalayan 'passerelle' suspension bridges. Stunning spot!

Started our #FrenchAlps trip with a long (for us) drive to the town of #Lamastre, where we overnighted after a quick explore. We then spent a lovely 24 hours exploring #Pont-en-Royans, dipping at cascades and in the river under impressively balanced cliff-top buildings. A little further on we parked at a ski station near #Villard-de-Lans and hiked to #Moucherotte through alpine meadows. A beautiful gentle start in the foothills, but we sense there is plenty more to come. #wildswimming #hiking
