Early start to the day for a visit to the Lower Tamar Lake. As the sun rose, three Whooper Swan swam into view (v atmospheric as it was misty too). Then a couple of hours in the hide testing my ID skills on Willow and Marsh Tit.

#WillowTit used to be a common #forest species in Finland. 2019 it was classified as #endangered on the Red List because of drastic population declines.
A new 30 year study suggests main culprit is intensive #forestry:
"The #EvenAged #forest #management has caused habitat loss for the #WillowTit which has affected the spatial breeding distribution measures and probably has a major role in the #population #decline of the species."

A daily reminder of how wonderfully diverse and beautiful life on this planet is. The simple act of helping our wild friends through the cold months is heartwarming. Every morning they patiently wait beside our window in the Lime tree and Dog Rose, chatting to each other and often waking us up. Their presence here is a blessing, and the least we can do is give them breakfast and a safe haven, always.

Willow tit (Poecile montanus) is also one of my favourite birds. Hard to find and see in my area as they are endangered, because logging and forestry. Old forests are becoming more and more less.
