macOS updates take longer than they should to apply. Windows 10 updates go on and on with multiple restarts. But neither OS after an update and reboot has resulted in a flashing question mark folder. Thanks Ubuntu.

The solution seemed to be to just keep rebooting. After 5 reboots I got the login screen. People who aren't insane and repeat the same thing over and over again expecting different results would have given up.

I settled on using the "metered connection" network device technique to block #Windows10 auto-updates & it works well... most of the time.

Unfortunately, today, I forgot to check the "metered connection" checkbox & #Win10 auto-updates messed up my system by installing older update versions than I had installed myself manually.

I'm wondering if there are any other ==working== auto-update blocking solutions you're using?

Mich stört es, dass funktionierende Geräte aufgrund von fehlenden Software-Updates entsorgt werden (müssen).
Gute Erfahrungen habe ich mit #Linux für alte Laptops gemacht, die von #Win10 nicht mehr unterstützt werden. Die sind zwar zurzeit sehr alt, funktionieren aber meist noch gut, wenn man Akku, Festplatte und Speicher erneuert.
Bei #Smartphones (mit #Wechselakku ) suche ich nach leichteren Alternativen als #LinageOS, was tw. aber sehr gut funktioniert, z. B. auf einen #S4Mini.

Wenn #Microsoft seine Sicherheitsupdates für #win10 einstellt, werden hoffentlich mehr Computer mit den einfach zu bedienenden #linux Distributionen wie #ubuntu oder #mint laufen.
Dort gibt es noch sehr lange Updatefähigkeit, weil die Grundanforderungen an die Hardware gering, während die Performance, selbst bei mittelmäßiger Hardware, sehr hoch ist.

自從 Windows 11 正式發佈以後，微軟就漸漸的放慢 Windows 10 相關的開發，把大部分重心都放在 Windows 11 上，甚至是市場傳聞的 Windows 12，微軟日前發布官方消息，確認 Windows 10 22H2 是最後一個 Windows 10 版本，意思就是說不會再有 23H2 或之後的版本，將會以 22H2 為基礎做每個月的更新。

Der Unterschied ist, dass #win10 auch auf alten PCs und Laptops funktioniert, #Win11 nicht!
Hatte #winvista nicht das gleiche Problem?

Unsere Familien-PCs sind alle nicht mit #Win11 kompatibel.
Linux läuft schon für den alten Agfa-Scanner, der Umstieg wird einfach.
Man muss aber für jedes kleine Windows-Programm eine Linux-Alternative suchen und sich einarbeiten.
Fotos, Musik, Backup... aber ehe man alle Geräte entsorgt... was für eine Verschwendung!
