Installed Window Maker Live on old MacBook Pro. Works fast and the look is clear with nice aestetics. I think I'll keep it there.

#windowmaker had a new release this month. I was waiting for a package to be available on Debian Unstable, which I installed today.

A tip if you want to use the new Hot Corner feature to open menus. set the hot corner to run "xdotool key FX", where X is 11 for running apps menu or 12 for Root menu (those are defaults, you can change them if you want)

@osnews Still running #FVWM here after all those years. I used to use #KDE a lot (still use the applications), have tried #Gnome several times. Used #Awesome for a bit… #WindowMaker, #AfterStep… #FVWM I keep coming back to.

I basically have it mostly configured as a manual tiling window manager through a couple of keyboard shortcuts that allow me to open windows full-screen, ½-screen or ¼-screen.

This has worked well for over 10 years now.

Maintenant j'aimerai bien revoir #windowmaker ou #nextspace sur ma machine.

Pour le moment mon desktop environnement carbure avec #pekwm pour la possibilité comme dans #openbox de joindre les fenêtres.

@pebbe Mooi dat je zo consistent blijft aan dezelfde wm al die jaren :) Fvwm heb ik zelf nooit echt gebruikt; ik begon (rond 1999) met #windowmaker, de grote desktop environments (gnome, kde) hebben me nooit zo aangetrokken, de "unity" interface van ubuntu later ook niet. Wel heb ik #openbox en #xfce nog een tijdje gedraaid in de jaren 2000-2010. Laatste decennium of meer zit ik op tiling window managers (lange tijd #dwm, nu #hyprland sinds de overstap van X11 naar Wayland).

In full unicode-glory, works charmingly.
Best to use glyphsize-aliased bitmapfont for starters and set -geometry accordingly; use -b (inner border in px) to fine-tune.

Finally managed to get the full #GNUstep environment + #windowmaker running on my #openbsd Thinkpad R60. So far (after a bit of a tricky installation) everything runs great!

Ich persönlich hab das gerne, dass ich mir meine Arbeitsumgebung so hintrimmen kann, dass sie meinen Bedürfnissen entspricht. Und ich nicht meine Bedürfnisse auf die Arbeitsoberfläche hin anpassen muss.

Aber das ist das schöne an #FOSS: Für jeden das passende dabei. Für Dich #Gnome, für mich #KDE und #WindowMaker :-)

Window manager: #WindowMaker -> #Fluxbox -> #FVWM -> #xmonad -> #i3wm.

#tmux replaced #screen at some point, just a nicer UI.

In the past I used #midnightcommander more, until #ranger came along, I like #vi bindings.

Browser: #NetscapeNavigator -> #Mozilla -> #Firefox -> #GoogleChrome -> #Firefox.

#vim is used the longest on the list.

I tend to stick to what's available on #DebianStable, so I didn't try #neovim for some time. I might try it.

I left myself astonished when I realized, this morning, how much granular is #windowmaker (aka #wmaker); now besides opening some applications in specific workspace and with a specific size, they can also prepare me a... ☕

The past is more futuristic than the future itself... :flan_shout:

Yeah that's the sad state of the current web, so many informations lost :/

I'll dig into it tomorrow (I think the matrox is still in the B2000).
In the meantime, I found old pictures of my other experimentations at this time, with my others a bit older #parisc : #visualize B180L and B132L+.
