Windows and former windows in

I believe the windows were bricked up because a new window tax was introduced (in the 1700s?), that was calculated by the number of windows in a dwelling and, rather than pay, a lot of people bricked up their windows.

Can any or @Histodons confirm or deny?

In 1696 the window tax was established in England with a 2 shilling tax placed on houses, if you had over 10 windows you paid an additional tax. Hence……
