The few English #winemakers using Charmat are the rebels and so like to shout about how different they are but don't put the price down!

It doesn't have to be Montrachet to be good.
Try Mercurey “Les Ormeaux”, Château d’Etroyes, Bourgogne 2018 for it's energy (around $40). I'm enjoying chards from the Santa Cruz Mountains recently, by Ghostwriter or Arnot-Roberts.
Pro-tip, though. Less expensive chardonnays are better with less #oak, which is likely to come from chips or staves or some other shortcut, rather than #barrel-aging, giving the #wine harsh and unbalanced flavors.

Great to see that the new generation of #winemakers studying #oenology at the University in #Tarragona are getting more daring. This experimental zesty #Xarello, made with indigenous yeast and using the #Ancestral Method, washed down the greasy tortilla amb fesols (beans) like a ninja on a rampage.
