Final trimming and checking Brix.
Started some rhubarb wine tonight. I'll know in 6 months if it's any good.
The rhubarb cordial from the other night came out great.

WashPost: #Roman ruins reveal how emperors used #winemaking in a lavish power play
"On the basis of these clues, archaeologists think the Quintilii served as a kind of “imperial toy,” said Alice Poletto, a Rome fellow at the British School at Rome ... The experts think enslaved people would have pounded grapes in the winery’s treading area ... By Poletto’s estimations, the dining complex could seat 25 to 27 guests, with the winemaking spectacle taking place perhaps twice a year as “a unique opportunity and an absolutely high honor ... a way for the emperor to highlight [&] reinforce his power.”"

Finally tried our latest wine. Paired it with BBQ chicken and it was excellent.
The label has terrible graphic design but I'm pretty pleased with the Spanish Ibex I drew for it.
Starting a batch of strawberry wine.
I don't have *quite* as much strawberry as some recipes call for, but I figure you use what you can.
Next year, I might do this again but throw in some rhubarb too. This year's rhubarb is already earmarked for making rhubarb-apple wine this fall.
Latest ep of the Inside Winemaking pod is enlightening but a little confusing. The guest disparages "natural wine" while fulminating against sterile filtration and championing red wines without added sulfur. I learned new stuff though.

Speaking of vineyard hikes, I think homebrewers should every now and then talk to someone who makes wine. There's so much we can learn from them. Ingredients matter. Locality matters. Embrace Terroir. Think long-term to create something great. Protect Pinot Noir grapes from deer that prefer them over Riesling grapes. And don't worry about confusing IPA terminology, vintners make white wine from this Red Riesling that is actually green 😂
Do you know of a winemaking consultant / enologist?
I am interested in their services for a new project which involves the design and construction of a new winery.
Your kind boost is appreciated. 🙏
