Little known, in 2021, Russia ran an alcoholic beverage trade deficit of US$2.5 billion - mostly with unfriendly countries. Half is due to wine; but there is even a trade deficit for spirits ($976m) and beer ($254m). Main import origins: wine imported from Italy, spirits from the UK, beer from Germany.

Little known. Among large wine exporting countries, U.S. wine exports exhibit the largest bulk wine share. 63% of U.S. wine exports are bulk - ahead of Spain & Australia with 51% each. - Germany's bulk share is just 2.5%; even more amazing, Georgia does not export any bulk wine!

In 2019 (before BREXIT), the UK was the world’s 10th largest wine exporter (#12 in 2021). It mostly exports bottled bulk to the EU and high-end to Hong Kong and the U.S.. UK’s Post (2021) wine exports to the European Union have declined by $191m or 51% (compared to 2019). Particularly sharp drops in Germany ($56m) and the Netherlands ($51m). Exports to Non-EU countries have stayed flat overall.
