My top wine of 2022 is this gorgeous amber wine from Azienda Agricola Aurete

I opened this months ago and still think about it, that's why it is my # 1 of the year.

I visited the boys and their Esperia vineyards in 2020, and tasted their line up of wines from the terracotta amphorae and even then knew this wine would be a show stopper. They are the caretakers of a vineyard planted in 1847! I wrote about it here:

It smells like a ritual. Lots of apricot, yellow plum, peach, citrus, golden apple, candle wax, walnuts, cedar, incense. It's summery and warm. Even though it's only 11.5% abv, the wine feels very full on the palate. The acidity is perfect. Long finish of wild flower honey.

@Sierrawineguy chaotic wine is made by chaotic wine makers. And what do we mean by #NaturalWine? Do we mean its viticulture? No commercial yeast? No enzymes? There are no rules around it so it’s an unhelpful term. There are so many beautiful low intervention wines being made! Seems a shame to throw off an entire way of making wine just cos some folks do it poorly. That’s like having a dreadful forced carb bubble and discounting all sparkling wine!

Something really cool happened to me today. A bit of backstory. I had Delta covid back in February of this year. I wasn't actually very ill, but I had long covid for months. I lost my sense of taste and smell for at least 3 or 4 months, and when it came back, it wasn't great. I also had severe cognitive issues. I only wrote one article all year, I couldn't do translation work. I lost vocabulary. It was not a great time period for me.
I visited the Palazzo Colonna today and smelled an aroma I hate, acted dramatic about it because I am Romanized, and then realized it was the perfume from a bouquet of lilies...in the next room.
