It's time for another #FediFridayWinlinkNet with a twist! Today you are going to have *another ham* check you in! You need to ask a ham friend to email your check in. Bonus if you ask them via radio
Have then send a #winlink message with the following format:
To: W0RMT
Subject: FFWN
Line 1 text (*details for the station being checked in*): [callsign], [firstname], [city], [state/province/locale], [country], [mastodon username], [VHF/HF/APRS/Telnet]
Line 2: free text

Lesson for the day: Trying to get #Winlink propagation estimates through Vara HF probably takes too long and isn't really an efficient use of air time.
#Winlink sounds like fun, but I haven't managed to get it working yet. Since I don't have a VHF/UHF radio that I can interface with my computer, I am trying to get it working on HF.
So far, I managed to get Direwolf and Pat (alternative to Winlink Express) to talk to each other and to PTT the radio with audio being transmitted.
Now my open questions are: What gateway supports AX.25 through Direwolf (are there even any?) What baud rate do I need (1200 or 300)?

We had 7 check-ins for yesterday's #FediFridayWinlinkNet ! It was cool to see everyone emailing each other via #Winlink as part of the net task. It looks like @KC8JC got the most emails!
The check-in list has been updated on the net page: https://coloradodigital.net/nets/fedifridaywinlinknet/

We are approaching the peak of #hurricane season in the Atlantic, and there are a lot of us new to #JS8Call.
Might it not be a good idea to do a hurricane drill so we can practice messaging in JS8Call? Could also incorporate #APRS & #Winlink.
I suggest this Sunday. We all pretend we have no power Internet and we pass drill traffic to each other.
Anybody in?
It's important that any traffic we send would be clearly marked as DRILL DRILL DRILL.

@stevelord Wow, that's fantastic. I wonder if there are many Ham #BBS systems floating around anymore. Also, with the advent of #Winlink would they even have #Fidonet email service enabled?
Don't forget #FFWN Fedi-Friday #Winlink Net this week! I will be your net control for 8/11. #AmateurRadio

Does anyone have a better #PAT #winlink setup tutorial for an x86 computer? While I am pretty advanced GNU/Linux user I find official guides quite confusing and others lacking. It is almost the end of first quarter of 21st century and #digimode shouldn't be this hard anymore. #hamradio #amateurradio #amateurfunk #qrp #qqrp
