The birds are starting to feed on the #winterberries (Ilex verticillata). I notice that a very few are darker, as if they've been frozen solid, while the rest are still bright red. I'm guessing that 'dark' = edible. Eventually, every single berry will be gone. #nativeplants #wildlife #gardening #CentralNewYork Zone 5b

I've been out taking pictures in the frost. Cotoneaster is an invasive species, so be careful where you plant it and make sure to keep it in check, but the flowers are very popular with bumble bees in the spring. This one is growing over a very small section of retaining wall, just outside the utility room door, so it's constantly pruned and shaped to keep it in check. #frost #winterberries
