On that note, I think next winter I am going to attempt to grow tomatos over the winter. I've become far too accustomed to fresh garden tomatos for me to ever want to buy in store again, and also want to avoid the plastic clamshell waste that it brings. It'll be a fun little adventure! Ah, also start growing leafy stuff again when I actually have windows in the kitchen and space to put a small planter!

Schroedinger's lime is alive! And so is everything else. Lemon, avocados, bougainvillea (though Vera Lynn may decide to go dormant after this cold), Rios are blooming, everything is fine. The relief is real. #WinterGardening

The thaw is here so I'm trying to psych myself up to go into the greenhouse. I'm afraid I'll find the lime dead and right now I don't know that it isn't, it's like Schoedinger's lime. But at some point I have to open the box (door) and water things and today is the day. #WinterGardening

Fingers crossed that these frost blankets saved my plants from two days of sub-freezing temps and #arcticblast wind. The fabric froze into a hard shell!

Wintersweet (chimonanthus praecox) reliably flowers in January in my part of Scotland, and now in December, the buds are fat and promising. To me the scent is like hyacinths. I love its flowers' shredded petals and deep red centres.
