The #WinterCircle (or #WinterHexagon is a giant asterism – an unofficial group of stars – made up of 6 of the sky’s brightest (and a bonus) in 6 constellations. It’s hard to describe how big it is without talking about degrees of arc and fists at arm’s length, but go look! It’s huge!
Speaking of the #Moon moving from night to night, tonight we'll see the Moon has moved eastward and is now about halfway between two bright stars: Orange-red #Betelgeuse in #Orion the hunter and golden yellow #Capella in #Auriga, the charioteer.
This is about smack in the middle of the #WinterHexagon, one of the most astoundingly amazing sights in the entire sky.

Wow... if you haven't looked at the skies lately, this is a great time to do it. Rising into the night by about mid-evening, the stars of #Orion are coming into view, along with, little by little, the rest of the #WinterHexagon's stars. But, as they do, there's shockingly bright red #Mars.
For such a tiny planet, only about half the size of Earth, it's positively stunning now, and will keep being stunning for at least a few more weeks. Please, head out and #lookup #space #astronomy
