Sixty years ago today The Rolling Stones appeared on ‘Ready Steady Go’ for the first time. It was the first of 20 appearances.

They played ‘Come On’ by Chuck Berry.

Another #wishboneash from the cupboard 1978 No Smoke Without Fire. A decent hard rock album produced by Derek Lawrence who last worked with them on #argus. Good songwriting and #LaurieWisefield has a hand in 5 of them. You See Red, Ships In The Sky, Baby The Angels Are Here and The Way Of The World remain live favourites. It’s a very good recording, production and engineering are tight. Nice album.

Another #wishboneash from the cupboard Number The Brave. No #martinturner so songwriting by committee with largely lumpen results. Lyrics were pretty awful, 6th form stuff. John Wetton on bass/vocals doesn’t add much of his stamp. He seemed to turn up at lots of bands in the 70’s and not stay long. Claire Hamill on vocals, again not adding much. This was a band in transition. They’d sacked Turner and really didn’t have the depth of melody. A rock cover of Smokey’s Get Ready reeks of desperation

Even playing a lot of #wishboneash today. Think this is the best of todays bunch. 1977 recorded in USA I think. Has a clean radio friendly sound, less rocky than previous LP New England. Good though #vinyl #vinylrecords

Dug all my #wishboneash studio albums out of the #vinyl cupboard for a listen in no particular order. First up Locked In. Mid 70’s they went to NYC to record with Tom Dowd and develop a more US radio friendly sound. This wasn’t their best imo. Martin Turner shared vocal leads with Laurie Wisefield who wasn’t the answer. Songwriting wasn’t great either. Turner’s She Was My Best Friend is the standout on a weak album

#Argus #wishboneash a timeless album. A band that captured lightning in a bottle with this. No filler all thriller. Some tasty lyrics from Martin Turner holds a theme across the album but it’s the musicianship that’s off the scale. The dual guitars and the tight rhythm section all demonstrate a tight band that had been honed to perfection over the previous few years. Every home should have this

Gigging tomorrow #martinturner ex #wishboneash playing some of his classics songs from his time in the band. This #streaming re-recording of #argus is very good with the dual guitars reproducing the iconic lines. Turner’s bass guitar work is also very melodic and compliments the leads. Saw Ash last year and loved it although I always feel that vocally they miss Turner. Will be interesting to compare his band to Ash

Bought this album yesterday from the Oxfam shop. Paid £10 which is the upper end for me. I enjoyed Home third album The Alchemist a lot so thought it was worth a punt. Cliff Williams went on to #acdc and Laurie Wisefield joined #wishboneash
