During today’s #skate session an elderly person said to me they wished more people would pick up #inlineSkating, especially the people at Kaiser-Josef-Platz, because it is quieter than skateboarding and ‘this other thing’ (presumably quad skating, as we ruled out everything else, even though they are not that loud either).
Let’s see what people say as soon as I feel confident enough to start jumping on stuff. 🙃

When #wizardSkating, I currently mostly practice the basics: overall balance and stability, forward and fakie gazelle, toe and heel press.
The next more exciting move that I’d like to learn is the parallel slide: https://youtu.be/AOh_NYuLvzc
Unfortunately, Karmeliterplatz (where I currently practice) is not well suited for this. I’d need a smooth, plane surface without gravel …

As my next Chinese exam approaches, I have been wondering how I would talk about #WizardSkating in Mandarin. Unfortunately, I am not yet capable of researching this on the chinese web.
So I came up with these:
巫滑 [wūhuá] or 巫溜 [wūliū].
巫 → witch, wizard, shaman
滑 → slide, slip
溜 → slide, glide, skate
滑 is part of 轮滑 [lúnhuá] (#rollerskating). 溜冰 [liūbīng] is part of words like ‘skater’, ‘skates’ and ‘skate rink’; but 冰 means ice, so I think these terms could actually relate to ice skating. 🤔
The first time on wizard frames I had to get used to the lack of a certain kind of stability (compared to the aggressive frames).
Today, during my second session, I understood that this lack of stability is actually manoeuvrability in disguise; now my motions feel more and more fluid, transitions are so satisfyingly smooth! 🤤
I am hooked, this is so much fun. 🧙♂️

Finally fully equipped. But my throat still feels a little rough, breaking them in will have to wait. 🥲
After investing some Christmas money I am now actually holding a pair of PR80 in my hands. ✨
Everything is prepared to mount them: some bouncy wheels; a bag of bearings; even a bearing press … but no bearing spacers, which I forgot to order. 🫥
So I went back online, but could not find any information on which spacers fit my wheels best. Also, opinions on spacers vary widely. To avoid further frustration I settled on the only adjustable spacer available. Now I wait again. 🫠
Last night I literally dreamt about skating Wizard PR80 frames. But they are just soo damn expensive.
I was thinking about getting a pair of Roka 80 or NN Dragon 80 instead; but all of them are currently hard o get, and I don‘t know how they actually compare.

By far the best tutorial on the basics of Wizard Skating I have seen so far:
