People often mistake this hilarious oddity for a type of fungus. It's actually the fruiting body of a slime mold amoeba, Lycogala epidendrum, also known as "wolf's milk".

When they're not fruiting the amoeba ooze around as single-celled individuals engulfing other microbes. But when it's time to reproduce they aggregate into one giant cell with many nuclei to form this oddly rude-looking shape, which can leak out a pink slime. Here they form the spores for the next generation of amoeba.
