If you’re a woman executive, people are likely to be more interested in your male assistant’s opinion than yours.

Every woman who works in a male-dominated field has a story about a time she was mistaken for a secretary or a receptionist or simply ignored. Where someone asked her to take notes or make coffee.

The "Authority Gap," aka the way we perceive leadership and expertise, makes it so much harder for women, especially younger women, to be heard, promoted and evaluated objectively.

The bias against women is not gender-specific, it is held by both men and women. It is a result of the way we've all been conditioned.

To overcome it, we have to be vigilant, especially when we're making snap judgments about people. It is very important we reflect on why we attribute traits to people.

As a woman, do you have a story where your authority was questioned? Let me know in the comments, please.
