Just finished Leila Slimani's The Perfect Nanny (Morocco/France) (2016)

My 5th for #WomenInTranslation month.

I read it in one sitting. Could not put it down.

Definitely deserves all the awards:
Prix Goncourt (2016), Los Angeles Times Book Prize Nominee for Mystery/Thriller (2018), Edgar Award Nominee for Best Paperback Original (2019)

Finished #WomenInTranslation novel # 4 - Hiromi Kawakami's The Nakano Thrift Shop. Just like the label says '...charming, quirky...', very laid back. An enjoyable read.

@lightweight it may be worth including readers not only of sci fi. Eg I’ve made projects of reading around the world, where I’ll prioritise literature by authors from countries & cultures I’m unfamiliar with.

The #WomenInTranslation #WiTMonth (each August), is a great example.

It may not be inherent in the genres, but the reader’s choices. Maybe liberals actively choose books that will broaden their perspective. Or maybe they just don’t read libertarians 🤷🏻‍♀️
