Annie Easley, born in 1933, began her career at the NACA as a “human computer,” performing complex calculations. When machines began to replace human computers, Easley adapted, becoming an expert computer programmer.

, 19 Apr 1967, Katherine Switzer becomes the first woman to complete the Boston Marathon as a registered runner, despite the organiser trying to stop her.

She ran it again in 2017, 50 years later.
