So uh is now humoring eliminating . Rationale: too many women are woke and it is the will of other women... Id like to think this is just a caricature used to ridicule the right but then I look at the comments and ask: is this where the right really is at today?!

So here’s a fun fact. In the US women got the right to vote in 1920. So that made them full citizens, right? Well, turns out there was a 1907 law called the Expatriation Act (repealed 1940) that said that if a woman married a non-citizen immigrant she lost her citizenship and would have to apply for naturalization when he became eligible. Also, married women could only vote under their husband’s surname (until 1975).

Today in Labor History February 15, 1879: President Rutherford Hayes signed a bill allowing female attorneys to argue cases before the Supreme Court. That same year, Belva Lockwood, a women’s rights and suffrage activist, became the first woman to argue a case before the Supreme Court.

Reading an excellent thread from @zhivi (starts at blacktwitter.io/@zhivi/1098241), led me to read this entry on Adella Hunt Logan in the New Georgia Encyclopedia georgiaencyclopedia.org/articl, which is useful and informative, until the end when it discusses Hunt Logan’s death from suicide. 1/ (short thread)

February 1, 1978 became the first woman to be honored on a U.S. postage stamp. Born enslaved in 1822, Tubman escaped and later led missions to rescue *no fewer than 70 others, including family (*numbers differ in various accounts). She was also a veteran, serving as a scout & spy.

Finland (at that time, the Grand Duchy of Finland) gave women the right to vote in 1906. They were the first in Europe. But how did this happen? What was going on in Finland? Anyone know some good books (in English) on Finnish history?

Lauren Witzke Says Giving Women the Right to Vote 'Was the Worst Thing That Ever Happened to America' | Right Wing Watch

When the "red wave" that many thought would sweep Republicans into power across the nation in the midterm elections failed to materialize, right-wing activists immediately began looking for someone to blame. One target of right-wing outrage has been young women, who voted overwhelmingly for Democrats in the recent elections.
