I’ve heard good things about

chipdrop.org

A website that connects arborist wanting to get rid of (and sometimes logs or topsoil) with gardeners fir whom free woodchip is a great resource.

Sounds like a great idea.

I probably don’t have cause to sign up myself because our association has so far kept the woodchip coming.

But I do like chipdrop.org ā€˜s anti-marketing!

The ā€œserviceā€ area of our with a (part-finished) storage box for tools, and two ā€œdalekā€ (probably the vanguard of the dalek invasion). Just covered the ground in that part with because it was already looking like a 1970s rugby pitch.
And then we’ve got the compost to start 2 raised beds.
It’s beginning to come together. And since it’s been ours since only 1 November, im pleased with that much done.

Next year at our we plan to grow in this way (as explained by @MFG ) Someone dumps trailer loads of woodchip on our allotment site so it’s free for the hauling. I’m thinking that, quite aside from the spuds, the potato plants will be lots of green stuff for composting.

That could be a real secondary benefit as new plots need a huge lot of , before eventually becoming self-sustaining.

@wormerama so I’m thinking: level the ground. Cardboard ā€œgroundsheetā€ & wood frame a la . Mouldy grass, some scraps, worms to fill. Water. Maybe cardboard or mulch on top to keep warm?
Our excellent committee has secured a big supply of . So could mulch with that or with more cardboard
Would that work do you think?
