An American woodcock (timberdoodle) in Bryant Park from Monday. Timberdoodles (along with red-winged blackbirds, kinglets, and common grackles) are some of the earliest birds in the spring migration here in NYC.

I had an unusual visitor to my snowy garden 13 years ago today so thought I'd share the photograph even though it is poor quality having been taken through a double-glazed window in very poor light. I believe the bird to be a woodcock.
My twin who lived about 47 miles away reckoned her husband had seen one in their garden the day before. Given that the RSPB states "You would be very lucky to see one", it intrigued us that we did on consecutive days! 😊

Today I found these feathers :apache: on the shore of the lake #JezioroMrowinko in western Poland. A friend thinks a #Woodcock ( #ScolopaxRusticola ) was caught by a #Goshawk. His reference to #featherbase seems plausible to me.
