Jackrabbit at @kenny_kangaroo is the park's oldest operating roller coaster, opening in 1920. Designed by John A. Miller, the coaster famously features a rare 70 foot double dip drop as its main ride feature, using the terrain of the park to thrill guests.

The old Jet Flyer station - now renamed to Sea Dragon - at the Columbus Zoo in Powell, OH. The coaster, operating since 1956, is a John C. Allen design that features a height of 35 feet (10.6m) and a ride time of 1:30.
The coaster is seen as a beginner coaster, built before the family coaster crazy really began. These smaller family-oriented wooden roller coasters are hard to find these days.

Big Dipper at Geauga Lake was a John A. Miller designed wooden roller coaster that operated at the park from 1925 to the park's closure in 2007. The out-and-back coaster reached topped heights of 62 feet and top speeds of 35 MPH.
The coaster sat abandoned until it was finally torn down in 2016. It's a shame it wasn't able to be relocated.

Do you regularly travel to #Maine to ride #RollerCoasters ? Probably not, but maybe we should for Excalibur at Funtown Splashtown.
Excalibur is a CCI designed wooden roller coaster who is celebrating her 25th anniversary this year. Reaching a height of 100ft (30.5m) and speeds of 55MPH, she may be the best kept secret Main has to offer tourists. Though we're a bit biased with that opinion.

Screechin' Eagle was a wooden roller coaster that operated at LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park from 1940 until the park's closure in 2002.
Designed by the infamous John C. Allen, Screechin' Eagle was actually the second home for this roller coaster, having originally opened in 1928 at Moxahala Amusement Park.
Sad to see this roller coaster wasn't able to survive past the park's closure.

The most quintessential part of Dragon Coaster at Playland Park has to be the iconic dragon that riders speed through mid-ride.
The ride is a classic - first opening in Rye, NY in 1929. She is an out-and-back coaster with a top height of only 79ft (24m) but is a favorite among classic roller coaster fans.

The Zippin Pippin was a John A. Miller designed wooden roller coaster that operated from 1923 to 2005 at Libertyland in Memphis, TN. The ride was formally known as just Pippin, but was slightly rethemed in 1975 to breathe new life into her.
A sign outside the entrance to the ride stated that this was Elvis's favorite ride.

Look at this gem. A postcard from @knoebels showing the reconstruction of #Phoenix after it was transported from #SanAntonio #Texas
Do you see the parking in front of the ride? Imagine parking there!
If you've been to the park recently you know how different this area looks now. Lots of trees still, but an antique car ride, flat rides, and Phoenix Junction have also been built in this area.

Roller Coaster at Lagoon Park in Farmington, Utah is one of the oldest operating roller coasters in the world, opening in 1921. Designed by John A. Miller, this ride was once the only roller coaster in operation between Chicago and California.
The coaster in the image is painted white, however the park has let the roller coaster return to it's natural wood over the years.

I do find it really weird that we’re getting *another* #WoodenCoaster, tho. This will be our 7th #coaster, THREE of them being wooden. :sadness:
Just give us a #gigacoaster, man. We have 1 #hypercoaster and even it isn’t original, and is widely considered a bottom-tier hypercoaster. There’s 2 other parks with basically the same coaster, and ours is the worst of the 3 :blobcatsad:
Also it’s 25 years old :oof: Literally half the age of #WoF, seeing as this year is its 50th Anniversary Season

The #coaster we’re getting this year isn’t really major unless you’re a long time #KansasCity #KC local. It’s a reimagining of a fan-favorite #WoodenCoaster that was taken down in 1997. The #ZambeziZinger
Buuuut it definitely helps that we’re one of the hosting cities for the #WorldCup in 2026. I’m sure Cedar Fair knows that bringing a major attraction in 2024/2025 would really boost their attendance for 2026.
It’s especially relevant since the park’s themed after ‘Around the World in 80 Days’

Rocket is a defunct wooden roller coaster that operated at Ocean View Amusement Park in Norfolk, Virginia from 1929 until the park's closure in 1978.
The ride was originally designed by Ed Vettel with further reworking of the track and layout by Herb Schmeck.
This is one of those roller coasters you wish hadn't been lost to history.

7. Mystic Timbers - @KingsIslandPR
This ranks so high on the list because it's proud that there is still space to build traditional wooden roller coasters in today's #ThemeParks. Theme parks tend to want to pass on building wooden coasters and opt for flashier steel options instead. But wooden coasters can be a great addition to a park's lineup, and Mystic Timbers is a great argument for exactly that.
